Designer Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) is regarded one of the finest chair designers in Denmark. He was taught the craftsmanship by a cabinet maker in Jutland and grew as a designer working as an assistant for Arne Jacobsen. At the end of World War II Wegner started his own shop in Gentofte near Copenhagen. The quality and finish stand out as his finest characteristics and throughout his career he designed about 500 chairs among which several have won international awards and recognition.
